Cliche of Vision

The cliche of vision is something experienced journalist must be aware of to counteract its influence. Learn to see every event, every news story, as just that, something new.


Here's the definition from Don Murray:

"If we don't watch out, we begin to see what we expect to see, not what we really see. The fullback always charges; the survivor always grieves. We need to train ourselves to observe so that the familiar is not."
